72 Hours after my Accident

My foot is swollen and turning purple at the bottom of all the toes. My arch is a purplish color well. I can't walk without crutches, and my wife is waiting on me and and foot. I even need help in the bathroom!

For those of you who don't know, I was in a head on collision on Friday morning on the way to work. I came over a hill and slid into an oncoming box truck, both going about 30 mph. The roads were atrocious. It was the scariest moment in my life when I saw the trucks headlights coming at me.

The hit was harsh but I was able to get out of the car, stunned at what I saw. My left hand hurt a lot and it was bloody. My forehead had a cut and was bleeding. My left foot hurt a lot but I was walking on it. The driver of the truck was OK. I was able to call Elaine and notify her (luckily the accident was a block from our home so she came quickly) and I was able to call 911, but they were already aware of the accident and were on their way.

I got transported to UMass Hospital in Leominster via ambulance. Being on a stretcher with a neck brace was surreal, but I knew I was OK. I could move everything and nothing really hurt (yet) except my foot and hand.

I had X-Rays on my foot and found out I have a severe foot contusion (a nasty bruise).

For the past few days my overall pain has gone down but my foot continues to kill me. I still can't walk but able to get around pretty good with crutches. I have been upstairs twice, and have even gone out for dinner with Elaine and have gone to Barnes & Noble. But walking with crutches really sucks. I am going to the doctor today to see if maybe there is some breaks or if it is just really really bruised. I can't put any weight on it.

My car is most likely totaled. I will find out this week the damage. I don't know when, but my next vehicle purchase will most likely be a Jeep or Chevy SUV. We'll see. Luckily today I have off (I took it off about a month ago) but not sure if I will be able to drive in my current condition. I hope to make it into work sometime this week but may be working from home for awhile.

If anyone cares to see pictures of the car and my injuries (Oh, stop, it's not that bad) - check them out here:
